about
I am AVTEUR and my style of directing/editing contrasts movie-like images with a hypnotic cocktail of psychedelic effects. Inspired by the films of the New French Extremity and boundary pushing arthouse directors, my goal is to foster a cinematic, narrative driven yet frenetic, transition-heavy style visual language that is unforgettable, shocking and artistically innovative from beginning-to-end.
BIO
Raised outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Avery Sadowski adopted the director pseudonym AVTEUR before moving to Los Angeles, California. Nearly a semester away from graduating from film school in March 2020, he dropped out shortly after news of the pandemic and used the opportunity to focus on his dream of directing music videos and films in Hollywood. After securing second place in a video editing competition hosted by Emmy-winner Jak Bannon, he captured the eye of Forbes 30 Under 30 music video director Edgar Esteves, subsequently leading to his signing to Esteves' esteemed production company, Blank Square Productions. Marking his directorial debut, Sadowski helmed the "Flowers" music video for the acclaimed rapper and Grammy-nominated songwriter, Belly. He’s since expanded into creative direction, artist management and fashion design while working towards his ultimate goal of feature length filmmaking.
MEANING
AVTEUR is a nod to the word auteur, a French term for a filmmaker whose personal influence and artistic control over a movie are so great that the filmmaker is regarded as the author of the movie. It is also inspired by the infamous Italian fashion house, ‘BVLGARI’, and their decision to replace the ‘U’ in their brand name with a ‘V’.
It is pronounced “Oh-tor”. The ‘V’ is silent.
